Italian Sandwich Rolls

Here I am again, back with another bread recipe. I am hooked on making my own bread, and it’s been a really great treat for my family. Also, an inexpensive and healthy way to cook…you know what you’re putting into it!

Italian Sandwich Rolls

This is a recipe I found from and is really simple to make; you just need time and patience.


1 1/2 cups water

1/4 cup olive oil

4 cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoons salt

1 tablespoon yeast


Place the water and oil in a medium saucepan and warm the water/oil. Do not make it too hot, or you will kill the yeast.

Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and add the yeast. Stir and let the yeast sit for 5 minutes.

Add the flour and the salt. Stir to combine well.

Turn the mixture onto a lightly floured surface and knead.

Knead the dough for 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Transfer the dough to a greased bowl and turn the dough ball to coat. Allow to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Divide the dough into sixteen equal parts. Form each part into short, thin ovals and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Preheat the oven to 400ºF.

Allow the rolls to rise for 20 minutes more or longer, until doubled in size.

Bake the rolls for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool on a rack before serving.
